Straight Jeans
“Do these jeans make me look fat?” isn’t simply a joke, but a reality experienced by women who go to the store to buy a pair of pants. Jeans are the most common but at
the same time the most difficult piece of clothing to purchase for women. Not only would they want something that would be flattering to their body type, they also want a pair that would put less emphasis on their perceived imperfections and have to be comfortable at the same time. This is where straight jeans come in.
Straight jeans are exactly what they are called. These are pants that are straight from the hips to the leg. Think of these as the pair that go in between skinny jeans and bootleg or flared jeans. Except for a few pairs, straight jeans hardly contain any elastic material. While they fit as snugly as skinny jeans up to the knee level, they are looser from the knee to the foot, although not as loose as flared jeans. Straight jeans usually have leg openings between 14-15 inches, as opposed to skinny jeans that have 12-13 inch leg openings, and flared jeans that have 15-16 inches.
Interestingly enough, the first pair of straight jeans was made not for fashion, but for utilitarian purposes. These were made for the blue collar crowd to wear while they are working, since they would need durable pants that will not be easily subject to wear and tear. However, as in other fashion trends, they eventually became popular, and skyrocketed to fame when worn by celebrity icons like James Dean and Elvis Presley.
What’s great about straight jeans is that they flatter just about everyone. This is the reason why they are a mainstay in anyone’s closet, regardless of the fashion season, because they actually never really go out of style. What they essentially do to your appearance is to create a good balance between your torso and your legs to form a good silhouette. Women who are embarrassed about wearing skinny jeans because they feel they have large thighs can wear straight jeans as a substitute. Tall women with long legs can also don a pair to emphasize the length of their limbs. Slim girls with narrow hips will also benefit from wearing straight jeans. Even the vertically-challenged ladies will love to own a pair of these, because the straight length of the pants legs creates an illusion of height. This reason also makes straight jeans a good choice for pear-shaped women, because its silhouette makes you appear taller, and at the same time de-emphasizes the width of your hips. Choose a dark-washed pair to put even less focus on these problem areas if you are concerned about the way these appear.
Don’t think straight jeans are just for women, though. Men also love the cut because they can actually be worn in just about any occasion. It looks good as casual wear, and men can also don a pair at the workplace if they are allowed to wear denim pants there.
Straight jeans are the classic choice that will benefit just about any person, no matter what his or her size or shape is.
